Warrior Wednesday Salutes

A few special stories this week, found by Sufferfortribe reminds us how much a few give up so much for so many of us.

The first story is typical of  many wounded warriors who overcome incredible loss and regain independence and active lives in a new way.  Retired Marine Sgt. Mike Nicholson came home from Afghanistan a triple amputee after stepping on an IED in 2011.  Things looked pretty hard for for his future except for the love of golf and his determination to still play.

Read how Sgt. Nicholson’s amazing journey brought him from thinking he’d never enjoy the life he had before his injuries again to a life which involves representing the USA while  playing golf  at the world’s largest Paralympic event, the 2017 Invictus games in Toronto this fall….

The Military’s oldest award is the Purple Heart, which was established by George Washington. For over 200 years the Purple Heart has been given nearly 2 million times to recognize the sacrifice of combat-wounded veterans. For various reasons sometimes this honored award is lost, leaving families of Vets without a piece of their cherished heroes service, sacrifice and legacy.

Read how a family was reunited with a piece of their Father’s World War Two sacrifices including time in a German POW camp when his Purple Heart was returned after nearly 60 years…

While our men and women in uniform deserve so much more recognition for their service, too often their families are forgotten. More people need to remember that they make sacrifices too.  I always love hearing stories about famous people giving something back for their freedoms, especially in ways which help and mean so much to those who are often forgotten about.

Former  NFL wide receiver for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Vincent Jackson has a foundation along with his wife called “Jackson in Action 83” which is involved in and helps Military families and our Troops.  Jackson grew up in a Military family and wants to help military families, especially the kids.

One of the annual events they do is a baby shower for Military Moms. Recently the Jacksons showered moms with $90,000 worth of diaper bags, strollers, car seats, even a play yard, all things to make pregnancy while serving, a little easier at this year’s event which you can read about here

One more, and I have to warn you major kleenex alert for this one. But please read it.

God Bless our Troops and Veterans, 2 legged and 4! and Thank You all for your Service!
