You could say this is a continuation of my last article “Unity among the Brethren” yet expanded after seeking the Lord and further reflection. Since then we have heard of a terrible tragedy in Las Vegas and the NFL fiasco has yet to go away. Our world is in complete disarray because of the anger and hatred in too many hearts.
Let’s take them one at a time. A few days ago a madman with enough firearms to murder an entire city let loose his wrath on unsuspecting innocents in Las Vegas. We are yet to know his motive but, perhaps, since his girlfriend has returned to US soil maybe she can help the authorities shed some light into his deranged mind.
I did hear not long after the shooting he had a Facebook page expressing his virulent anti Trump viewpoint. Whether true or not I do not know but it brings me to one point I’d like to discuss and that is politically motivated hatred. The Left hates the Right, the Right hates the Left and the Center hates both. This can be easily seen by going to any political website and reading the comments. The vitriol spewed is, in some cases, is beyond the pale.
The other huge news story which continues to make headlines is the NFL. To be sure it’s not over and won’t be for awhile. My guess is it will destroy the game so many have known and loved. However, the underlying cause of this is racial hatred. Once again it is whites hating blacks and blacks hating whites but to what end?
Hatred, for whatever reason or cause, destroys the soul. When the soul reaches the point it becomes embittered it doesn’t take long for the soul to self destruct. The only cure for this is repentance. However, if you believe your hatred is justified why would you repent? If you think others have mistreated you the first carnal urge will be to strike out against them. Unless someone recognizes their own sin they don’t see the need to repent and without repentance there is no forgiveness.
Unfortunately, some of these profess to be Christians. Lest anyone think I am preaching without practicing I have asked to Lord to show me my own heart to reveal hatred of any kind for anyone. Sometimes, we cover our sins in self righteousness or self righteous anger and it is these which I have prayed the Lord to expose.
As someone who has asked the Lord to be a part of His end times Army I know it’s only when love is my heart’s motive that He can and will use me. As written in 1Cor. 9:27 “But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.”
The world is Satan’s cauldron where he stirs death, division and destruction. Speaking for me it becomes very easy to get drawn into 24 hour news cycle and all that is wrong in the world. This, in my opinion, has been one of the major causes of the anger and hatred we see. It also can be difficult at times to rise above it but we can if we change our focus.
The Lord needs His Body unified in love for Him and each other. As earlier stated we will not accomplish God’s will in the earth nor will we be the Church the Lord is coming back for as written in Eph. 5:27 “a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish” if we allow ourselves to be overcome by anything but His love. Truly this should be every Christian’s goal.
So how do we do this? First, we focus on Jesus and not one another. Secondly, we must examine ourselves and repent of any hatred within us. Last but not least, we must seek the Lord and offer ourselves to Him and for His work in the earth. As said last time the Lord needs us. My prayer is we will answer His call.
