There’s an old book called “In His Steps” by Charles Sheldon. It was first published in 1896 and has sold more than 30,000,000 copies. This book was where the phrase “What would Jesus Do?” first came about.
Back in the 90’s there was a new wave of “WWJD” which seemed to have more of a marketing effect than a witnessing one. However it revived the thoughts of every day situations and how Christians should deal with them by asking themselves What Jesus would do.
In Sheldon’s book, a Reverend at a city church never figured his asking his congregation, “I want volunteers from First Church who will pledge themselves, earnestly and honestly, for an entire year; not to do anything without first asking the question, ‘What would Jesus do?'” would have such a profound reaction and impact. Especially the fact that among those who responded were some of the most influential members of his congregation. Together they pledged themselves to a new step of faith, and throughout the book we see the amazing effects on not just their church and little community, but on the whole city.
Yes, it’s a fictional account, but imagine what our own communities and country would be like if all Christians not just asked, but lived as Jesus would do….
Welcome to Sunday’s movie. I think you’ll like it, even if you’ve seen it before. At least I hope you do!
Have a blessed day everyone!
