Here at Heart Beat we have read some great articles. Each day I look forward to seeing what has been posted. After reading Lawngren’s and Stehekin’s articles about the Garden of Eden and Duckie’s about the tragedy in Texas I began thinking about how Satan, the great deceiver, has affected our society in today’s world.
Jesus was speaking about Satan in John 8:44 when He said “He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.” So, what is Satan’s purpose? The same it has always been and Jesus has given us the answer in John 10:10 “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy.”
Satan’s tactics have not changed but the world has and too many have bought into his greatest deception of all; God does not exist. If God does not exist then there is no consequence for sin. Also, if God does not exist Satan must not either and he cannot be blamed for the evil we see in the world. In many ways he’s like the kid on the playground who talks someone into beating up the new kid in school and then walks away laughing when the child gets in trouble for doing it. The truth is Satan is behind every evil act we see and cheering it on.
All mankind has been given free will but as Christians we know how to deal with temptation and the Word teaches us how not to listen to the devil’s lies. We also have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit and “the mind of Christ” (1 Cor 2:16). We are taught to be aware of Satan’s strategies, how he deceives and how to use our authority over him. As written in James 4: 7 “resist the devil and he will flee from you”.
On the other hand fallen man, though he also has free will, does not have God’s wisdom dwelling within. Without a relationship with God an unbeliever neither knows nor understands the devil’s wiles and strategies. He may also not believe in God or Satan. Therefore he is a pawn easily used in Satan’s game of Chess with God. This is one of the reasons we must pray for the lost because as Jesus uttered on the Cross “Father forgive them for they know not what they do” Luke 23:34
We have all heard the term “worldly wisdom” but what exactly is it? Certainly, mankind has gained wisdom over time and through experience. However, when we consider Satan is “the god of this world” and he “hath blinded the minds of them which believe not” as written 2 Cor 4:4, it becomes easier to understand some of the “wisdom” they are using is coming straight from the pit. Unknowingly, they are being used to do Satan’s bidding and to carry out his plans. This is how we have seen the immoral become law and the perverse become accepted. Satan has deceived mankind into believing nothing is wrong if it feels right.
Satan has worked for over 200 years to turn our God fearing nation into a humanist, secular society and now we are seeing the results. The absence of God means the presence of Evil. Just look at any local newscast and other than, perhaps, a pleasant weather forecast most likely you will hear bad news. From degenerate Hollywood being exposed to violent crime and Antifa protests our society has become deranged and many mentally unstable people are walking our streets. I often wonder if there was someone who had an anointed Deliverance ministry how many beds they could clear out were they to go to the mental wards in each hospital?
Some Christians are also deceived because they are not being taught. Speaking for me I can’t remember the last time I heard the name Satan mentioned from the pulpit. This is another form of deception. For those who think I’m referring to “the devil made me do it” allow me to explain. It’s not about the devil hiding around every corner but recognizing his influence in our lives. If there is no Satan there is no sin and if there is no sin anything is acceptable. The perversion and immorality of today would not have been so prevalent had we kept God and His commandments where they belonged; at the forefront of our nation and our lives. However, we didn’t and now we are paying the piper.
St. Paul wrote about what we would find in the last days in Romans 1: 18-32 and we need only to open our eyes and look around to witness it:
“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things. Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.
For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality,[cwickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving,[d] unmerciful; who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.”
We desperately need a Revival to bring our nation to its knees in repentance before God. I know many, like me, have been praying for it. The bad news is until we do Evil will continue to triumph and tragedies like the church shooting in Texas will continue.
However there is good news too. The Lord is returning soon. Come, Lord Jesus. Amen.
