Somewhere in Your Silent Night

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised…

For today’s heartbeat heartbits, I want to take this time to remind folks that there are people who have hurts and heartaches that no ‘season’s greetings’ and ‘holiday cheer’ can ease.

Christmas is a blessing when one remembers the reason for the season, and the hope and promises of the birth of our Lord and Savior so long ago.  Yet so many, even believers who have such a hard time at this time of year- the brokenhearted, get lost in so much of the excitement and happiness of those around them who anticipate Christmas.

I admit that the past few Christmas’s have been hard for me, and although I am so grateful for the original Christmas Gift of our Savior, and hold onto that bit of hope for His coming again, everything and everyone I miss or hurt for is just magnified at this time of year. It’s hard for me not to think about how many people I know who have recently lost someone they love, but also think about those who are so far from home, fighting for peace for others and knowing that many are suffering around the world- it reminds me that the secular side of Christmas is just so empty.

While I focus more and more on the Reason, that seems to bring the starkness of the culture around us who love the parties, celebrations, gifts and everything else material- and it just adds more sadness for a lost world.

It’s hard to believe sometimes but for those who hurt at Christmas, there is still Hope.

Believe it…

There is no distance the Prince of Peace won’t go
From manger low to Calvary’s hill
When your pain runs deep
His love runs deeper still
He has always loved you, child
And He always will

The verse I used for the beginning was a prophecy given by Isaiah. Isaiah also told of Jesus hundreds of years before His birth…

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.

For those of you who are brokenhearted and whose spirits are low; behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

We may not find ourselves happy at this time of year, but we can still have the joy knowing that while Peace for the world and our souls may seem elusive now,our Prince of Peace loves you, and will heal your broken hearts.

God bless all, have a safe and beautiful day. May God’s presence be felt no matter where you are or the circumstances you find yourselves in.
