I’ll talk on this article about the movies of 2017. This won’t be about the state of Hollywood, though there’s plenty to say about them. No, this will be only about the movies the industry put out in 2017. I’ll put out my top 10 list of the year and in addition, mention a few movies that surprised me and a those that left me feeling disappointed. Before I continue, please note that this is only about the movies that I have watched.
First off, I’ll talk about films that surprised and disappointed me in 2017.
Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets
This $200 million dollar sci-fi movie has a generic story, but the visuals are amazing and you can tell the writer / director put a lot of effort into it.
The Mountain Between Us
This movie had a good looking trailer that made this to look like a thriller, but in reality is a poorly directed and poorly written sappy romance.
My Little Pony: The Movie
This isn’t a very good movie, but is on the list simply because I ended up enjoying this movie a lot more than I thought I would have.
Blade Runner 2049 and Darkest Hour
Both movies had potential. Blade Runner had great visuals and Darkest Hour, a great performance. But overall, both movies underwhelmed me.
The Great Wall and Kidnap
These were my two guilty pleasures this year. Both movies aren’t very good, but they are both fun enough and unintentionally entertaining.
With that over, here’s my top 10 list. To keep it short, I’ll just post the films with my ratings and not go into detail. All 10 of these are worth watching.
