Red Friday

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.  Ephesians 6:10

Ronald Reagan once noted that “There are some who have forgotten why we have a military. It’s not to promote war, it’s to be prepared for peace”

He also believed in “Peace through strength” realizing that it’s only through strength that evil can be beaten back to where people can live in relative peace.

The US has always been known for our mighty military- and for the most part we are still free still because of generations of exceptional warriors who’ve fought around the world not only preserving our own freedom, but securing it for so many others.

There have been generations however of those who feel that we do not need to train for war or maintain standing armed forces. They believe that non intervention would keep enemies from retaliating, or that dialogue and diplomacy can go further to promote peace than violence. There are enough examples throughout history which show that unopposed evil will fester, spread and attack those who are unprepared or weaker. When force is used, the only thing that can meet it is greater force, and our country’s military has always been willing to meet it head on.

Whether we agree with war or not, we live in a fallen world where it’s sometimes necessary for good men and women to take up arms to protect and defend.

Yet human might and planning are not enough to overcome evil and make the world peaceful.

We are reminded in the Bible that “we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” (Ephesians 6:12)

The real battleground is the soul, and Satan with his demonic army wage war with greed, covetousness, lust and power. Any evil that can be identified in dictatorships, ideologies, pogroms and persecution has the enemy behind it. These can’t be fought only with military power, no matter how mighty, strong and honorable a warrior may be.

Many of our troops and Veterans are born warriors- that is, they have something in common, whether it is their calling, the only thing they wanted to be, or their willingness if they could, would still go fight wherever the need arises.  The abilities and the desire to protect are gifts from God. Protecting innocents from violence, defending the weak from dictators and persecution, and to stop an evil from spreading, is a blessing God gives to the world through our warriors.

It is a blessed assurance that as God’s Holy Spirit helps us when we put on His armor to fight the spiritual wars, He also helps those who he chose for the task of fighting the physical wars.

God uses those who heed the call to  combat evil, but the victory ultimately belongs to Him, as He has already overcome the world.

To all our Troops, thank You for your service. God bless and keep you safe.
