For days, the song “A World Without Love” by Peter and Gordon has been replaying in my mind over and over again. I knew the Lord was trying to tell me something because the only words I could remember from the song were “I don’t care what they say I won’t live in a world without love”. As I thought about it I realized our world really is in a sad state of affairs because for a very long time we have been living in a world without love.
It is written “ Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.” (1 John 4:7, 8)
For decades people have been pushing God out of our society and we are now seeing the results of this poor decision. Everywhere we look there is turmoil, disagreement and in some places outright hatred expressed for others. It is true; the more we push out God the more we are living in a world without Love, who is God.
As a born again Christian the Holy Spirit indwells us. Therefore, all who God is and all He has abides within us. It is written in Romans 5: 5 “Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.” Therefore, if the love of God has been shed abroad in our hearts so have all of His other attributes.
A number of years ago when my life looked like it was falling apart I prayed to the Lord for peace. However, the Lord showed me that I already had peace because His Spirit, who is full of peace, indwells me. Therefore, what I needed to do was get rid of the angst. In other words when I got rid of the angst, peace would rise up within me and comfort my soul.
Through the years I have learned this applies to everything the devil throws at me. If I’m feeling worried I turn on praise and worship music and before long I am rejoicing in the Lord. It may not change the circumstance but it will strengthen me to face the problem. Is it not written in Nehemiah 8:10 “Do not sorrow, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.” ?
You may be thinking I’m making this sound too easy. I assure it is not because it requires time spent in the Word of God. It means turning off everything around you and this includes your own mind. It means letting the Word fill your spirit to the point it pours out into your soul and overrides everything else.
So, what does this have to do with living in a world without love? Everything! We can’t increase our love for others nor do we have to try. All we really need to do is to rid ourselves of the hatred which is inside of us. You’re probably thinking you don’t hate anyone because that’s what I would say if someone asked me. However, the truth is we all hold ill feelings for some person or group. It’s those we need to work on and once we repent of them, spend time dwelling on Scriptures which promote the love of God.
Dealing with our own self is not an easy answer but it is the best answer. Just think if everyone did we may actually live some Heaven on Earth. “Wouldn’t It Be Nice” as the Beach Boys asked, if we did?
