There have been a couple of teachers when I was younger that made a difference in my life, not a huge impact, but just acts of kindness mixed with tough love to have a lasting impression on me, and there have been many times I’ve read about something and it affected me so much I had to ‘do something’.
The boy and I started watching the movie “Amazing Grace” a little while ago, just the first half- we’ll finish it tomorrow, but I couldn’t help but think about the story of William Wilberforce, and just how much a sermon from his pastor as a young man changed the course of history for millions of people.
When I wrote about those songs the other day, and the stories behind them, I’ve thought about how many millions of people those songs have touched- and how we will never really know just how many people we impact, how far the ripples go out, when we do something. Even if it’s something simple in a positive way for either God, or someone else, we most likely won’t know on this side of Heaven.
There have been times over the past few years where I wanted to make an impact with my writing, politics and just here in my community. I lament the fact that I no longer can stay at home where I am more comfortable, especially when I was back at my old place in my old life that I miss. But every now and then I need to remind myself that God has a way of moving us out of our comfort zones for a reason. We might not realize immediately that there is a reason, or that it will make any kind of difference. But at least hopefully something can change for the better and make a splash wherever He puts us if we let Him.
Have you ever had someone do or say something, or have an influence on you in a way that it changed your life? Have you ever had an experience when you saw someone do something out of the ordinary, or read about someone that grabbed your heart and made you want to go out and do the same thing for someone else?
