Saturday Stuff

And ye said, Behold, the Lord our God hath shewed us his glory and his greatness, and we have heard his voice out of the midst of the fire: we have seen this day that God doth talk with man, and he liveth.  Deuteronomy  5:24

And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.  Revelation 21:23

The Bible has a lot to say about God’s glory.  Have you ever considered that He intends for us to shine His Glory for the world?

I know not all of us get Ravi all the time, he is so in depth on subjects of apologetics and teaching God’s Word, but in other ways, he really hits it home and gives much food for thought.

I’ve had a few things on my mind for so long, but not really ready to delve into it, especially on a Saturday, but this 2 part session of Ravi on Let My People Think has something to do with it~ bringing and being light to darkening places. Not just physical places, but here, on the internet where there are so many places once frequented by many of us, which have gone by way of so much of the world these days. And they’re only getting darker.

Sometimes God gives a real call to people to go out into the mission field. Lawngren has read recently the story of Gladys Aylward, who in spite of being denied by the Mission board she applied to for missionary work in China, answered the call the Lord had placed on her heart and went anyway. Not all of us are able to go. Sometimes we send others, sometimes we support others, but there is a huge mission field at our fingertips- and this place has been a mission of sorts for me for years in different ways.

It’s not always considered by Christians to be a mission field, and some might not understand my passion for leaving little bits of Jesus here and there, but I still believe there are a lot of lost souls out there who wouldn’t hear or see Him any other way but online. And there are a lot of fellow believers out there who could use encouragement- just as we do for each other here.

So, that’s a little piece of what’s been on my heart- Daisy and I have talked about it a lot over the past few years, and keep on coming back to it. So maybe there’s something real there that God wants us to understand and do.

For now, I’ll leave you with this, then get on with the Ravi videos….

Yesterday’s verse of the day was Isaiah 55:6

Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near

Usually I read scripture in context, but once in a while, like when I read that before work yesterday, I am struck in a new way of seeing.  Reading that out of context of the chapter, I saw it as a kind of like a warning.  That God may not be found if you seek him only after ignoring Him so long, and that He is close (calling, convicting) but won’t always be, if people keep ignoring Him.

Taken in context of the chapter kind of confirmed that thought.  Notice verse 5 though, (while He is talking concerning Israel, it can also be taken the same for Christians)  Behold, thou shalt call a nation that thou knowest not, and nations that knew not thee shall run unto thee because of the Lord thy God, and for the Holy One of Israel; for he hath glorified thee.

He glorified His chosen people Israel to be that light that drew other nations to Him. He has done the same with His church.  We need to be that light… but more on that some other time.

These are a little involved as usual, but broken into 2 parts, so maybe if anyone is interested in listening, they don’t have to sit through 2 hours at a time.  But I hope you enjoy these as much as I have.

What does the glory of God mean in a society that is filled with darkness? How can we better understand the bright light of the glory of God?

Have a blessed Saturday all.

Of course this is also an open thread. Say & play and enjoy your day 🙂
