But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased. Daniel 12:4
When I was a kid, I never really liked sci fi books or movies. I’m not sure why, maybe I was just too young to understand any kind of reasoning behind them. Usually I found them kind of depressing. Call me old fashioned and pollyannaish, but I always preferred stories with happy endings- and Science fictions left me with more questions and confusion most of the time.
Don’t get me wrong, some of the stuff in the fantasy based ones- time machines, the Jetsons (lol) and other inventive things were cool to think about. But on a whole, I found if there was any kind of ‘villain’ or good vs. evil type theme, the lines were blurred and one usually ended up feeling bad for the villain.
It seems like the more humans decide on what’s right and wrong, based on human knowledge, and leaving anything “God based” out of it, our society becomes more divisive, hateful and yes, dumbed down and blaming everything in the world on lack of socialist programs like government education. While the increase of education has brought technological advances and knowledge at our fingertips, wisdom is severely lacking.
So technology without wisdom to use it wisely… reminds me of science fictional “mad scientists”. Or,
Suddenly I’m thinking of the computer called HAL. While I never saw Arthur C. Clarke’s 2001: A Space Odyssey, I’ve seen scenes of the freaky parts of the AI who kills crew members on the Discovery 1.
With the advent of computers and new technological gadgets coming to the mass market at an ever faster pace, people have shorter attention spans, pass along ‘fake’ news as if it’s reality, and can’t tell a good piece of satire from reality. And yet, science fiction seems to be making it to the main stream through things such as transhumanism, facial recognition/imaging and iris scanning, drone warfare, AI and micro chip technology that can scan your medical and banking history with a simple swipe of a scanner.
Sounds like we humans can use a little AI to help us with things doesn’t it. Maybe if we let computers run everything, things will be hmmm… heavenly.
We know from history that once out of the box, there’s no way things will go back. AI and all things that go along with it, is here to stay, and will continue to shape the way we live. Artificial intelligence is already developed (and being fixed) in things like cars. Imagine having no one driving transport trucks, which will only rely on a computer to ship things across the country and around the world. Worked great for Uber a few years ago when there was a human ‘co pilot’ which still couldn’t control the automated car from hitting a pedestrian in Arizona. Can’t wait for AI flying planes.
I have to ask, even if a human is super intelligent enough to create AI that knows everything, what can stop a really good hacker from getting into it and turning it into some crazy Terminator type assassin machine? I also wonder, isn’t Artificial Intelligence as intelligent as the most intelligent person?
Some folks would think someone like the famous physicist, atheist Stephen Hawking was the most intelligent person at least in our time, and yet considering AI, he wondered at the wisdom of using them considering they are “too clever”. Doesn’t it take a human to program the computer? Maybe I just don’t get it. I know I don’t get it- but in a way I don’t want to either. The thought of robots running the military or national defense scares me as much as algorithms telling me what I want to see or experience in social media or spamming my e mails.
Don’t get me wrong, the same technology that brings us handy gadgets to make life more streamlined also brings advances to life saving devices and medicine, and things to aid our troops and national defense. But as with everything, there is a flip side, and when one bases everything on the human ability while leaving morality and God given wisdom out, we’re going to see a radical “Brave New World” here before too long.
So. Now that I’ve piqued your interest, or hopefully I have, there are a couple of videos I’ve found that go into some of these issues a little more closely in referring to the end times and how technology is ripe for a one world government/Antichrist ruler. I still have more I’d like to share on some of the things I’ve found out there- not necessarily to scare, but to share because even though we’re looking up, we need to be aware of what’s here.
So, I hope you find some time to watch these, and if you’re anything like me, you’ll be fascinated, even if some stuff goes over my head…
Until next time, have a blessed Thursday all!
