2018 in the Spotlight

We’ve had a long year, with some amazing music scattered about the porch here.  We’ve highlighted so much talent, but more so, amazing lyrics which touch the soul, give peace and remind us that we’re not alone in our personal trials.

I think it’s a good idea to spotlight some of our favorite music we’ve ‘discovered’ this past year- even though many of the songs are not new, they may have been new to us, or just favorites we’ve shared here.

From a new perspective of Bart Millard’s I Can Only Imagine based on the movie of his life which came out earlier this year, to the Irish band Rend Collective’s blue grassy folk ballad style… to our ‘hunt’ for just the right song for the Heartbeat own song, this has been a good year of music, fellowship and sharing something that everyone enjoys.

So, after sharing a few of my favorites of 2018, I wanna hear yours!

We featured Toby Mac back in June.  A gifted artist who began with Newsboys lead, Michael Tate in the band DCTalk, crossing over to the secular charts without leaving the message of the cross, and eventually breaking out on his own, he’s featured many other artists in his music over the years. This isn’t a new one, but Suffer had ‘introduced’ the song which has become one of my favorites…

We featured Brandon Heath in September, and in doing the write up for him, I ‘discovered’ his Blue Mountain album from 6 years ago.  A different style, but one which I think suits him, and it’s become my favorite style of his… especially the title track from the album…

One of my favorite Christian artists of all time is Matthew West.  One of the first Christian songs I found on you tube is his song More, and it’s still one of my favorite reminders of who we are in Jesus.  We featured Matthew way back in April and included this great song…

I have so many favorites that it’s hard to choose just a few, but I’ll put up one more and quit being a hog 🙂

Oh dang this is harder than I thought lol. Big Daddy or Sidewalk Prophets?  David Crowder or The Afters… Ooh, Rend Collective! Maybe something softer… Casting Crowns, 2nd Chapter of Acts… or yes, one of my other early Christian favorites, Sara Groves

Another September spotlight- I never knew much about her, but her first song I heard when the boy was little was The Word, which I still love when I listen to it, but her heart is captured in her song I Saw What I Saw…

OK it’s y’alls turn!

Have a blessed Sunday all!
