Sometimes it’s good to just relax and listen to happy, carefree stuff especially when it comes from a younger perspective such as the artist in today’s spotlight- Jamie Grace.
Born in 1991, I think Grace is one of the youngest artist we’ve featured here. I first heard her song Beautiful Day a few years ago on a local Christian radio station and it was such a fun song, fresh and positive that it made me smile listening to it.
Jamie Grace hails from Atlanta, Georgia and got her start on you tube, posting her music. She was discovered by a few different media outlets during her teen years and like a few others, she was also discovered by Toby Mac, who loved her style and signed her to his label Gotee Records for two albums. She released the song “Hold Me” in 2011 which she was nominated for at the 2012 Grammys and won the 2012 Dove Award for New Artist of the Year.
She was home schooled with her older sister, and they grew up singing and playing instruments both at church and at home. She created a YouTube account and began posting videos of her songs online in 2006 and eventually drew more and more recognition for her talents, to eventually being noticed by TobyMac and signing her in 2010.
On May 4, 2011, Jesus Freak Hideout announced that “Hold Me,” her first single, had attained the No. 1 spot at CHR.
Her second studio album, Ready to Fly was released in January 2014. The first single was “Beautiful Day”.
Both Jamie Grace and her sister, artist Morgan Harper Nichols, announced her departure from Gotee Records in late summer 2016. Also in 2016, she was called up onto the stage at an Adele concert and sang a cover of “I Can’t Help Falling in Love With You” by Elvis – and Adele said that she had a great voice. Since then, she has released numerous singles and albums, playing live venues and in late 2017 she introduced a new project, ’91 Anthems; a YouTube endeavor featuring 91 original songs and covers recorded inspired by stories submitted by fans.
Since then, she has released another single, “Wait it Out”, and is working on new music as well.
Grace graduated from Point University with a bachelor’s degree in children’s ministry. She has Tourette syndrome and obsessive–compulsive disorder. Her disorder while hard to control, is something she never let come between her and her music- and she sings to help inspire others in spite of it.
Here’s a short interview of Jamie telling a little of her background,
Listening to some of her songs, I still feel like I’m looking at a simple faith through the eyes of a little girl, but she’s all grown up now! In January 25, 2018, Grace announced that she had become engaged to Aaron Collins. The couple were married on April 14, 2018
I admit there are a lot of songs I haven’t heard by her, but she does have a different style and is enjoyable to listen to. I hope folks find some they enjoy and share them.
Have a blessed Sunday all!
