Right now the southern states are in the heat of hurricane season. We who live in prone areas know that the potential is there every year for a major storm to come and we plan accordingly. Every summer, many folks will stock up a little more to have some supplies for ‘just in case’. We keep our eyes open for when depressions and areas of concern form, we keep track of the timing, and plan a little more, gather more supplies and prepare.
Many times we’ve had discussions about earthquakes, tornadoes and hurricanes here, as many of us have gone through at least one kind of event, some of us have been in multiple. I will always ‘take hurricanes’ over tornadoes or earthquakes because we have warnings, and sometimes we have them with plenty of time to prepare.
Switching gears to the Bible now, and we find that throughout the old Testament, God talks about watchmen on the wall. These were the people who watched for danger, and warned the city of coming storms of gathering armies. As like those ancient ones of Israel, as Christians, we’re also meant to be watchmen.
It amazes me how many Christians don’t consider the importance of the Book of Revelation. Either they don’t understand it, so tend to ignore it, or it’s not taught near enough to know much. Some people don’t like to learn or teach about it because compared to other Biblical teachings, it doesn’t seem applicable because so many believe it’s mostly symbolic. Sure there are symbolic parts in scripture, yet how many things in this final revelation have to do with warnings?
Much like storms, God gives us warnings of what’s to come, and even throughout the Bible He gives us seasons to watch for.
One doesn’t only have to read Revelation though to understand how God warns people- Throughout the Old and New Testaments there are books devoted to the times and ways in which God warned the people of coming judgement.
I know people don’t like to think about or focus on God’s Holy Righteousness, and His abhorrence of sin, and definitely don’t like to think that He judges nations- especially when it’s ours He is judging.
In the Old Testament, He used prophets to warn Israel- and while prophets aren’t as they were back then, God uses people still to exhort, teach and warn. As Christians it’s important, just as it is for those of us who have to understand and study our environments to recognize warnings before disaster hits, to see, hear and understand that God does warn- over and over again of coming judgments.
As with so many things, what I’m writing about now has been on my heart for a long time, and I can’t let the storm come without warning about it. This is not what I want to write about, and I know it’s not something that people want to read, or believe, that God is running out of patience with our country.
While He is patient, and always gives chances to repent and receive His Salvation through Christ, He will send judgments against nations when the people have fallen into sin and turned against Him.
I’ve been reading Jeremiah for the past month or so. I’m taking my time on this book, and it is eye opening in a few different ways, and I can see a correlation between Judah in Jeremiah’s time, and the judgments of a nation through Romans chapter 1, and what is happening in America now. And I know I’m not the only one seeing this going on.
Verses 21 and 22 have been going on for as long as I’ve been alive. The past 20-50 years our society has known God, but ignored Him, put Him away, following after vanity and every imagination. They began to think themselves wise, but became fools, and have been indoctrinating a nation of fools ever since.
The next verses show how God gave them over- three times. First through “the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonor their own bodies between themselves” The sexual revolution of the 60s. Feminism, make love, not war, abortion rights of the early 70s… I’m barely old enough to have heard the term ‘swingers’ from the 60s and 70s, where open marriages was a new fad, and wife/husband swapping was a trend long before reality TV shows brought it into homes across the country. Marriage vows still meant something to most people, but the nation was sliding down the beginnings of a well greased slide. Abortion became legal, and the breakdown of family had begun in earnest- and God was kicked out of the schools and public buildings.
So God gave them over… the 2nd time- “vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature…”
I’ve heard it said recently that when women are openly sinning, society is about finished in it’s depravity.
This brings me back to Jeremiah, in chapter 40
Pay close attention to verses 15-19
Not only does the Lord give them fair warning and describe what the women also did, but the women boasted that they would keep on doing these things! They were celebrating their sins.
Just like now in America- abortion is not only tolerated, not only legalized, but celebrated. Homosexuality burst into national debates in the 80s. It was demanded tolerance, and they received much tolerance. But then tolerance wasn’t enough, it had to be accepted, and pride taken in it to where it’s taught in schools, celebrated in parades and a month dedicated to gay pride. As if that wasn’t enough- now we are told that we must deny biology and accept that there are over 100 different genders.
I’m sorry, even if I stretch my mind I can only come up with maybe 5. I’m not even going to devote a minute trying to understand 100. But the fact is, it’s not science that matters, it’s feelings. Vile affections and lusts of their own desires. If it feels good do it, and those who don’t like it are bigots and phobic, and trashed, thrashed and vilified as hateful.
And even still, they did not retain God in their knowledge– if they even talk about God, they say God loves them as they are, proud gay Christians being ‘married’ in churches across the country, and in some cases the progressive church claims the Holy Spirit blesses them.
So the third and final giving over- to a reprobate mind…. being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, spiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, without understanding, covenant breakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful.
Sound familiar as we take in any day’s news headlines?
Reprobate literally means wicked, shameless and immoral- but a reprobate mind, is a mind that doesn’t work properly.
How many times do we find ourselves marveling over the incredulous, hypocritical, nonsensical (remember- 100 genders) things that not only are being pushed, but accepted and even celebrated by so many in our world today? That old standby, “Liberalism is a mental disease” comes to mind right now, but it’s not meant in a mean spirited way, and it’s not just infecting liberals- although the most of it does seem to come from that side of the political spectrum.
A grown white man can be a 6 year old girl and be adopted.
People identify as being a lizard and are enabled in their metamorphosis of having implanted horns and reptilian contact lenses. Grown men can use girls restrooms and locker rooms, and abortion is even allowable up to post birth in some places. We are told to accept the ‘science’ that there is evidence of life on mars, but not life in the womb. We’re told to accept the ‘science’ of global warming/cooling/ change, and told if we don’t radically change and stop eating red meat, we’re all gonna die- but don’t dare bring up science when it comes to human anatomy and two gender choices at birth.
We are called haters for not accepting their demands of tolerance for anything. Everything is permissible except Christian values. Everything is permissible to those who demand tolerance and equality for all, but don’t you dare express your personal beliefs about Jesus in public, your work place, your classroom or your business.
What is right is wrong, what’s wrong is celebrated. National laws are made to be broken if the right people break them. Illegals are given sanctuary, even after murdering someone, and health care, while Veterans who fought for our country are homeless and fight for basic care at the VA.
It goes on and on at a nauseating pace.
Nothing makes sense to a person with common sense, but foolishness makes complete sense to those of a reprobate mind.
God has given them over. Three times. And now where are we as a nation? We are listening to politicians talking about gun laws, more gun laws as if that’s going to make it all better. Because not ONE politician, celebrity or spokesperson has dared to bring up the fact that our nation is reaping what we’ve sown for the past 50 plus years. Not one has brought up sin, and that the heart is vile in a nation who has turned their back on God. They demand God’s blessing our nation, while shoving Him aside, and don’t ever want to listen about His Holiness, righteousness and judgement.
Because they, knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.
We’re in the midst of a gathering storm, and it’s not looking like this one is going to pass us by. Is there hope through it? There always is hope. His Name is Jesus. He loves us enough to give us warnings, and those of us who are called by His Name, need to be the watchmen, shouting the warnings to whoever will listen- if there is any chance of coming out of this storm with a nation intact.
I hate writing this kind of stuff. But just as I wouldn’t want my family and friends, neighbors and acquaintances to be unprepared for a category 5 hurricane, I cannot let them ignore the warnings God has given, and the judgments already handed down. Because there will be more if hearts don’t change. We need to give the light of the Word to those who are still blind and deceived.
I’ve said it too many times; America is not found in the book of Revelation but there is still hope for the hearts of people.
