I’ve been an isolationist for a long time. I’ve commented here that I didn’t think the US should be fighting in the Mideast. I think it was Snake who replied that US military presence at least helped those who were living under terrible regimes. I have come to believe that Snake was more right than he knew.
At this link ( https://www.oann.com/pentagon-chief-arrives-in-riyadh-as-iran-tensions-simmer-and-russia-makes-moves/ ) Idrees Ali / One America News discusses fears in the Mideast after President Trump’s announcement of US troop withdrawal from Northern Syria, and US Defense Secretary Mark Esper’s visit to Saudi Arabia, “a visit intended partly to reassure Riyadh over bilateral ties.”
* Note from Duckie, Daisy and I couldn’t find the link to the OANN story, as it’s no longer available. However we did find a story here based on Esper’s visit if you want to read more.
US withdrawal from Syria makes Mideast nations wonder whether the US can be counted on as an ally against Iran, and whether they would not be wise to turn to Russia for support. Russia, of course, is willing to step into any perceived power vacuum: “President Vladimir Putin signaled Moscow’s growing Middle East clout last week on his first visit to Saudi Arabia in over a decade, buoyed by Russian military gains in Syria, strong ties with regional rivals and energy cooperation. “
Iran is about 90% Shia’ Muslim. About 85% of Saudi Arabia are Sunni Muslims. “An ancient religious divide is helping fuel a resurgence of conflicts in the Middle East and Muslim countries. Struggles between Sunni and Shia forces have fed a Syrian civil war that threatens to transform the map of the Middle East, spurred violence that is fracturing Iraq, and widened fissures in a number of tense Gulf countries.” (From The Sunni-Shia Divide ) Muslims kill other Muslims almost as enthusiastically as they kill “infidels”.
“Iran Has Amassed the Largest Ballistic Missile Force in the Middle East”, May 22, 2019, update of the 2017 article, Author Zachary Keck reports Iran’s missiles as having a range from about 300 miles to as much as 1180 miles, capable of carrying warheads from 1,000 pounds to well over 3,000 pounds.
From Tehran to Riyadh is about 810 miles by air. Most of Iran’s missiles are road-mobile, which effectively increases their range significantly. The Saudis should be nervous.
For our own economy and social stability, we need to keep the oil flowing. To prevent Russia from expanding into the Mideast, we need to present a deterrence to Iranian ambitions. To prevent a huge war starting in the Mideast with who knows what spillover consequences, we need to be a stabilizing influence in the Mideast. See “Assessing the Global Operating Environment: Middle East“.
And there is no way that can be accomplished except by US military strength. No other nation has what it takes to go toe-to-toe with Russia and Iran.
So we need our warriors. We and the entire Mideast need American soldiers to be in the Mideast ready and able to fight. Thank you, Snake. If you had not challenged my thinking on this, I’d still have been an isolationist. I do not welcome this change of mind, but I have no doubt now that you were right.
But there’s more. If I and many other Christians, including some serious Bible scholars, are right, we are now in the time period in which God is bringing to salvation the last Gentile souls before the Rapture and the Apocalypse:
“I do not want you to be ignorant of this mystery, brothers and sisters, so that you may not be conceited: Israel has experienced a hardening in part until the full number of the Gentiles has come in…” (Romans 11:25)
“Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it is near, right at the door.” (Matthew 24:32-33)
The quote from Matthew comes from the chapter in which Jesus is describing “the sign of [His] coming and of the end of the age”. It has to be a symbolic passage, because fig trees have blossomed almost 2,000 times since He said that. The Bible uses the analogy of figs to represent Israel, as in Jeremiah chapter 24.
Are these things happening?
Is there evidence that the hardening of Jewish hearts toward Jesus as Messiah is softening?
” In 1948, there were approximately ten million Jewish people around the world who had survived the Holocaust. About 600,000 were living in Israel. Of those, only 23 of them believed in Yeshua as their Messiah. There were some churches led by denominations and missionaries in Israel, but there were no Messianic congregations at all.
In 1989 Israel’s Jewish population had grown to 3.5 million, and by this point, the estimated number of believers had reached 1,200. There were now 30 congregations.
By 1999 there were 4.8 million Jews living in Israel, 81 Messianic congregations and an estimated 5,000 believers.
In 2017, 300 congregations were counted. It has become increasingly difficult to accurately identify the number of Jewish believers in Israel, but a conservative estimate is now 30,000.” ( One For Israel )
Is there evidence that unreached Gentiles are coming to belief in Jesus? Yes, in unexpected places, and I believe that in some way, America’s troops are facilitating it. To save a LOT of time, go to the times listed with these links. It’s the book of Acts all over again! The internet has many more examples of even miraculous conversions of Muslims to faith in Jesus as Messiah and God. This has never happened before in Muslim nations on a widespread basis:
33:18: Iranian Muslim Leader found Lord Jesus Christ
11:00: Muslim man converts to Christianity
17:39, especially 18:50: A Jihadist Overcome by the Love of Jesus
3:30: Jesus Knocks on Muslim Imam’s Door
Maybe the only reason God has so far withheld ultimate judgment from America is that our troops are accomplishing something related to what God is doing now. That means that not only are American soldiers fighting a just fight in the Mideast, but they are actually protecting America, because America is providing the forces which are doing something God wants done outside of America: restraining evil in the Mideast while the Holy Spirit speaks directly to those who have open hearts. Pastor John MacArthur specifically says so in this sermon:
China is also experiencing massive growth in Christian faith: “Protestant Christianity has been one of the fastest-growing religions in China in recent years, rising from having just three million adherents in the 1980s to as many as an estimated 100 million this year.”
We’re in the end zone, brothers and sisters in Christ.
“When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near. ” (Luke 21:28)
“All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure. ” (1st John 3:3)
