A Double-Barreled RED Thanksgiving

We just celebrated Thanksgiving, which is the day that thankful Christian hearts give thanks to God for the incredible and uncountable blessings secular, physical, financial, mental, and spiritual we have been given over the past year. “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” (James 1:17)

Some of those good and perfect gifts come to us through people. Today is the day of the week that the Positive Heartbeat honors those Americans who since the War for Independence have fought for our freedom and protection: “the original and still the best”, the awesomely powerful United States Military.

First, we thank You, Abba, for having given this nation its birth and its independence through our warriors. I would be the last to proclaim America perfect, but I feel honored to be a citizen of the most generous and beneficial nation on earth. I could go on literally for hours writing about the blessings America has given to the world, but that’s not where we’re focussed today. Because without power to protect the homeland, there would have been none of the good things America has been and done and given to and for the world. Power in the hands of the righteous is a blessing beyond measure. Even God would have been overthrown by evil if not for His power. Embedded in the prophecies of Isaiah and Ezekiel are indictments against the devil which make it crystal clear that he planned or maybe attempted a coup against God, and was stopped by God’s infinitely greater power: Isaiah 14:12-15 and Ezekiel 28:11-19.

None of America’s deservedly proud history would have happened if not for Americans who were willing to fight and if necessary die to keep the light of freedom shining in America. It started in the hearts of American colonists and erupted in gunfire at Concord, Massachusetts. It continued for eight years until the war was won.

There were “the Indian Wars” before and after the War for Independence. The Barbary Wars afterward, in which for the first time the American flag flew over a foreign battlefield. The British were slow learners and came back for a second round in 1812. Did you know we actually fought a border war with Mexico in 1846?

The Civil War, when America ended the curse of slavery in America at a cost of 620,000 American lives. Did you know that it was not until the Vietnam War that American casualties in all foreign wars combined equaled the casualties of the Civil War? Reparations? How about 620,000 American lives spent giving freedom to black people in America? Is that enough payment for injustices? But King Jesus and President Lincoln were right, “A house divided against itself will not stand.” The Civil War was a war for the survival of the American nation. It had to be fought and won, or we would not be here today.

World War One and Two. America not only saved Europe from tyranny twice in the span of one generation, but helped rebuild it afterward. There was cause in World War One to believe that remaining neutral would have resulted in an extreme threat to American freedom, but that’s a story for another time.

On through history the wars have continued, and always there have been warriors willing to answer the call. Korea. Vietnam. Grenada. The Persian Gulf War. Bosnia. Afghanistan. Somalia. Libya. Iraq again. Uganda. Syria.

Not to mention many small Special Forces missions we will probably never know about in this life. The unending line of courage. God guide you, guard you, and give you victory, American Warriors.

“Born to Rise”

“Born To Rise” lyrics; don’t miss a word:

We were born to rise
We were born to rise

So what you know about sacrifice when the lights go out?
The price to pay when you’re digging down
The skin of your teeth and the blade in your back
What you know about hope? What you know about that?

Write it off as criminal, a place to cast a stone
On and on we carry on when one is not enough

We are the ones who were born to rise
We are the ones with the fire inside
I go to war with the brothers I trust
And there ain’t no stopping us, there ain’t no stopping us
We are the ones who will bring the rain
We are the ones who will break the chain
I go to war with the brothers I trust
And there ain’t no stopping us, there ain’t no stopping us

What you know about standing up when the odds get stacked?
Time stands still, ain’t no turnin’ back
When everything you’re worth is under attack
What you know about heart? What you know about that?

Write it off as criminal, a place to cast a stone
On and on we carry on when one is not enough

We are the ones who were born to rise
We are the ones with the fire inside
I go to war with the brothers I trust
And there ain’t no stopping us, there ain’t no stopping us
We are the ones who will bring the rain
We are the ones who will break the chain
I go to war with the brothers I trust
And there ain’t no stopping us, there ain’t no stopping us

We were born to rise
Ain’t no stopping us, no stopping us
We were born to rise
Ain’t no stopping us, no stopping us

We are the ones who were born to rise
We are the ones with the fire inside
I go to war with the brothers I trust
And there ain’t no stopping us, there ain’t no stopping us
We are the ones who will bring the rain
We are the ones who will break the chain
I go to war with the brothers I trust
And there ain’t no stopping us, there ain’t no stopping us

We were born to rise
Ain’t no stopping us, no stopping us
We were born to rise
There ain’t no stopping us, there ain’t no stopping us

We were born to rise
Ain’t no stopping us, no stopping us
We were born to rise
There ain’t no stopping us, there ain’t no stopping us

Ephesians 1:16 I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers.
