As we head into the Christmas season, it seems like a good time to think about the many gifts God has given us through the birth of His only begotten Son. Jesus really is the reason for the season, but how often to we really realize just what He’s given us?
Sure, salvation if we accept that gift. As if that’s not enough. Salvation in itself is an immensely priceless and incredibly awesome thing. He is our redeemer, our fine payer, and our reconciliation to God our Father. Salvation- saving. Considering what He’s saved us from; sin, death, eternal separation from God and from an eternity of pain, suffering and intense knowledge that we separated ourselves from God who so loved us. I can’t even imagine and don’t want to.
But think about the other gifts we find at the foot of the cross…
Provision. Jehovah Jireh means the Lord will Provide. Its one of the Names of God. Not only did He provide the perfect Sacrifice for the sins of the world, but He provides our needs. Romans 8:32 reminds us, He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?
Comfort. He gives us comfort when we’re grieving or anxious or hurting.
In John 14:16-18 tells Jesus tells us “And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.”
Deliverance. He delivers us from evil of the enemy, from sin and death. There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. 1 Corinthians 10:13
Faithfulness. Once we put our trust in Jesus, we are in His Father’s hands, where no one can snatch us out. He is faithful to hold onto us, never leave, forsake or lose us. He is the Good Shepherd, who takes care of His flock. He is faithful in His love for us, faithful in His promises. He will triumph, He has already won, and He will come back and defeat sin and death, and the ancient serpent once and for all. Revelation 19:11 “And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.”
All of the gifts of our Savior can be found in Pslam 23– He gives us peace, rest, provides our needs, prepares us and for us, a place in His kingdom for us to dwell there with Him.
I didn’t really intend to make the title of today’s heart bits to be a pun or a joke about our Savior- but it really is for the love of Him that we are able to find hope and some day ever lasting peace and joy. He is and always will be the perfect Gift of Christmas. And for the Gospel message, well that’s a gift worth re gifting!
For those who need such a gift, He offers it to you every minute of every day of the year. I hope you will take Him.
Have a blessed Tuesday all!
