Sunday’s Porch

How often here have we said that prayer is powerful.  Prayer may be the most powerful weapon we have after the Sword, which is the Word of God.   Folks here have over the few years this porch has been open, asked for, and prayed for each other, and even many folks we don’t personally know.   We all need prayers, and we all need to pray.

Something Lawngren said in a prayer yesterday (for Voddie Baucham) caught my attention,  “not because You require many people requesting help before You give it, but first because Your Word tells us to lift each other up in prayer, and second because we want to lift each other up. For some reason we don’t totally understand, this makes us partners with You in Your response. It also binds us together a little more as the Body of Christ…

There’s so much in life that we won’t understand, but that we can come before our Father when we have time of great need, is in itself a powerful reminder, and comfort of how much He wants us to depend on Him, and trust Him.  Whether He answers us in ways we want, or expect, or says, “not right now” or even a “no”,  we know that He hears each and every petition, plea and problem we come to Him with.  Even when we don’t know what to pray for, or how to pray, that we can be open with the Lord and tell Him of our struggle to find the words, He knows that we are trying to reach out to Him and He will ‘hear’ through the Holy Spirit.  He understands our weaknesses, our times of little faith, and our lack of knowing what to say or how to say it.

In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.  Romans 8:26

We don’t need flowing, eloquent and flowery King James type speech to pray, there’s been so many times when a simple “Help Lord!” is all we need.  Whatever way we find the words, as long as we’re sincere, trusting, reverent and honest before Him, He will hear.

Look to the LORD and his strength; seek his face always.  1 Chronicles 16:11

And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.  Ephesians 6:18

We are commanded to pray, for each other and our enemies, we are exhorted to pray for those who are hurting, and we have been prayed for by Jesus Himself,

My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one— I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.  John 17:20-23

Prayer is the most valuable tool we could ever have, one of the most encouraging acts we can do, and in times of stress and grief, it can be a blessing to know others are praying.  Having folks here who are so willing to pray is an incredible blessing to me.

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you  1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

It’s an open porch, so please share your church messages if you can, and enjoy the peace and knowledge of His Word through the messages shared!  Have a blessed and beautiful Sunday all!

Going to try and add JD’s prophecy update here. Let’s see if it works,
