So they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their garments over it for him to ride on. As he rode along, the crowds spread out their garments on the road ahead of him. When he reached the place where the road started down the Mount of Olives, all of his followers began to shout and sing as they walked along, praising God for all the wonderful miracles they had seen.
“Blessings on the King who comes in the name of the LORD! Peace in heaven, and glory in highest heaven!”
For many, the story of Jesus ended in the tomb, with unbeliever’s stories and theories growing from then until now, or ignored and thought of some good teacher, some good man who once was, but is just another way.
And to many who cheered that day when Jesus rode into Jerusalem as a king, He was the good teacher, the miracle man. A diversion, entertainment…an exciting spectacle.
Crowds are easily amused, easily whipped up, and easily angered. In a word, crowds are fickle, driven by emotion from outside sources. After all, the crowds that day were excited about seeing this prophet, this rabbi, this miracle man himself. But in less than a week, they were calling Him a criminal, demanding His execution.
But all of them, then and now, who have missed the Truth of Jesus, have missed out on something this world has desperately needed and un-admittedly desired. Love.
To think of Jesus is to think of the Love of God.
Jesus isn’t just some being, distant and “over there” entity, far away and far removed from us. Some man who was good and then died.
He is Emanuel, God with us.
He is Holy to be revered for sure, but thinking of His love for us, is to realize that He patiently pursues us. He won’t intrude on our belief in Him or compel us like some brute to love or follow Him, but He definitely loves our souls and desires all to come to Him.
He never Loves as the world defines love. His Love is truth which shows the God Who created not only us, but also the love He desires for us. His love is pure, and He so loved the world even when we perverted His love, murdered it and replaced it with idols.
For Christians we can often come so short of showing His love. We sometimes love as the world does, when it’s easy, but not sharing the Truth of and the Source of Love. Other times we tend to faithfully point out the sins of others without sharing the Love that can cleanse those sinful lives.
There’s a whole hurting world out there right now who’ve either forgotten what His love is, or have never known it. Some might have read about it, but looking at religion’s version of it, have come to believe Jesus’s love is hypocritical. It’s not easy to truly love the way Jesus does, and asks us to, but as we go through this week before the Resurrection, it’d be a good time to ponder the things Jesus went through because of His love- for us, but also for those out there who are destroying humanity in the name of worldly love. They need to know His love, or they will suffer eternity far removed from it.
Jesus is the Comforter, the Holy Spirit and His Word He has given ~ Love letters that help, train, teach, give hope, and learn about Him and to have a relationship to and with Him. Never leaving nor forsaking… So much wrapped up in those things, on top of all He saved us from. It’s sometimes so inconceivable. And He came that ALL would learn of His love. The Love that He has, and the Love that He IS!
Have a blessed Palm Sunday all, and please share your church messages with us if you can.
